ABC/Rick Rowell(NEW YORK) -- Joe Bailey's time in paradise came to a sudden end on Sunday night.

He was eliminated during the latest episode of Bachelor in Paradise -- all thanks to Samantha Steffen, the woman who motivated him to join the show in the first place.

In a dramatic rose ceremony, Samantha held the final rose and was forced to choose between Joe and Dan Cox. To the surprise of the other cast members, she picked Dan.

Afterward, Joe confronted Samantha, who complained about the drama that had surrounded their relationship. He responded by threatening to reveal text messages, allegedly from Samantha, that would prove that she'd schemed with him prior to the season. Allegedly, she'd urged him to do whatever it takes to get a rose so that he would be waiting for her when she arrived in Mexico.

Samantha's decision left a bitter taste in the mouths of her co-stars, who now view her as a villain who turned her back on Joe.

Earlier in the episode, it appeared as though Samantha had given Joe a second chance, after cancelling a date with Justin Reich. Before the rose ceremony, Dan tried to convince Samantha that Joe was no good for her. Apparently, the talk worked.

After Justin was cut loose by Samantha, he went with his backup plan: Amber James, who accepted his invitation for a date. They learned salsa dancing, but Amber was hung up on Dan. Unfortunately for her, he didn't feel a strong connection with her, and told her as much.

Recurring Bachelor franchise star Chris Bukowski arrived to paradise and was awarded a date card, though he initially seemed more preoccupied with the alcohol that was available. Eventually, he asked out Tenley Mohlzan, but she rejected him.

Seeing an opportunity, Joshua Albers asked Chris if he could have the date card. Chris agreed, and his ego took a blow when Joshua promptly used the card to woo Tenley. Joshua and Tenley traveled to Guadalajara, where they enjoyed dinner prepared by renowned chef Francisco Ruano.

In the lead-up to the rose ceremony, Ashley Iaconneti handed her crush, Jared Haibon, a lengthy letter detailing her feelings for him. On the rebound from Dan, Amber took an interest in Jared, too. Ashley presented Jared with a rose at the rose ceremony.

Toward the end of the episode, another Bachelor franchise alum joined the cast: Chelsie Webster fromJuan Pablo Galavis' season of The Bachelor.

Bachelor in Paradise continues Monday night at 8 p.m. Eastern time on ABC.

MTV(LOS ANGELES) -- Nicki Minaj kicked off the MTV VMAs by performing with Taylor Swift, apparently patching things up with the pop icon after the two had a beef earlier this year via Twitter over the award show's nominations list.

But after Minaj won a Moon Man for Best Hip-Hop Video, Minaj gave her speech then said, "Now back to the b---- who had a lot to say about me earlier in the week, Miley Cyrus what's good?"

Minaj pointed at Cyrus, apparently mad at what VMAs host said in a New York Times interview published Thursday.

When Cyrus was asked about what she thought about what Minaj said when she didn't get nominated for the big award of the night, saying skinny blonde girls got the nod instead, Cyrus said, "I don’t respect your statement because of the anger that came with it. And it's not anger like, 'Guys, I'm frustrated about some things that are a bigger issue.' You made it about you. Not to sound like a b-----, but that’s like, 'Eh, I didn’t get my V.M.A.'"

She continued, "If you want to make it about race, there's a way you could do that. But don't make it just about yourself."

When the camera flashed back to Cyrus on Sunday night during the show, Minaj was still pointing at Cyrus, calling her out for talking trash.

Minaj also tweeted after the incident with "Lmfaooooooooooooo."

Cyrus, however, just congratulated Minaj and then said across the room, "It's no big deal, it's just an award," referring to her original comments in the Times.

Warner Bros.(LOS ANGELES) -- Zac Efron could have used more support from his friends this weekend.

His new music drama We Are Your Friends, in which he plays an aspiring DJ, was a major flop over the weekend. It earned an estimated 1.8 million dollars on more than 23 hundred screens, ranking as one of the weakest debuts ever for a film with such a wide release.

The number-one movie, for the third weekend in a row, was the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton, which raised 13.2 million dollars.

The religious drama War Room opened in second place, collecting 11 million dollars in 11-hundred-plus locations. In other words, it had a much better debut than We Are Your Friends.

The Owen Wilson thriller No Escape took fourth place, with 8.3 million. The film has made 10.3 million since it arrived in theaters last Wednesday.

Here are the top 10 movies from Friday through Sunday, with estimated ticket sales, according to Rentrak:

1. Straight Outta Compton, $13.2 million
2. War Room, $11 million
3. Mission: Impossible -- Rogue Nation, $8.3 million
4. No Escape, $8.3 million
5. Sinister 2, $4.7 million
6. The Man From U.N.C.L.E., $4.4 million
7. Hitman: Agent 47, $3.9 million
8. The Gift, $3.1 million
9. Jurassic World, $3.1 million
10. Ant-Man, $3.1 million

MTV(LOS ANGELES) -- Last night's MTV Video Music Awards were unforgettable -- and not just because of host Miley Cyrus’ crazy antics and Kanye West’s bizarre presidential announcement. The evening packed some major musical performances, too.

Here's who sang what:

Nicki Minaj opened the show and was joined by a surprise appearance by her former Twitter sparring partner Taylor Swift. The two sang a bit of Nicki’s “The Night Is Still Young” together before launching into Taylor’s “Bad Blood” and ending the performance with a hug.

Right after Nicki and Taylor’s lovefest, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis took it to the streets of downtown Los Angeles for their debut live performance of their new single, “Downtown.”

The Weeknd appeared on a red-lit stage to sing his current hit “Can’t Feel My Face,” and ended the performance by dancing amidst some dangerous-looking pyrotechnics. Even Kanye was on his feet for this one.

In her first ever VMA performance, Demi Lovato sang “Cool for the Summer” on an outdoor stage and was joined by her pal Iggy Azalea. She ended the performance by crowd-surfing on a giant inflatable pool.

Justin Bieber made an emotional VMA comeback. He busted out some killer dance moves for hisSkrillex/Diplo hit “Where Are U Now,” and flew in the air for his new single “What Do You Mean?” When his performance was over, the Biebs broke down in tears.

With guitar in hand, Tori Kelly took the stage to sing “Should’ve Been Us,” and hit every note.

Pharrell Williams hit the outdoor stage to sing “Freedom,” in a show seemingly inspired by Elvis Presley’s performance of “Jailhouse Rock” in the 1957 movie of the same name.

In perhaps the most unexpected pairing of the night, A$AP Rocky was joined on stage by Twenty One Pilots. They did a medley of Twenty One Pilots’ “HeavyDirtySoul” and “Lane Boy,” and A$AP’s “M" and “L$D.”

And to cap off the night, Miley sang a brand new song called “Dooo It!” backed by drag queens and The Flaming Lips. Right after the performance, she announced that her new album, Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz,  is now available online for free.

ABC News(NEW YORK) -- Wes Craven has died.

The horror legend had been battling brain cancer, according to a statement from his family. He was 76.

"It is with deep sadness we inform you that Wes Craven passed away at 1 p.m. on Sunday, August 30th," the statement began. "Craven was surrounded by love, in the presence of his family at his Los Angeles home."

Born in Cleveland, Craven directed his first feature film, The Last House on the Left, which he also wrote and edited, in 1972. In the years that followed, he is credited for revamping the horror genre, writing and directing such films as A Nightmare on Elm Street, which ultimately spawned a franchise, The Hills Have Eyes and its sequels, and Scream.

Still, the director also worked on non-horror films, including Paris Je T'Aime and Music of the Heart. Being a horror-only director, he said, was never his intention.

"Once you get a name for doing something really scary, people assume that you’re crazy and live in a cave and all those things. Somebody asked me this morning, ‘What did your friends think when you made a romantic comedy?' I said, 'My friends all know who I really am. I'm not somebody scary in real life,'" he told Collider in 2007. "It's just one of those things that you have to get into this very special environment."

Off set, Craven was a passionate bird conservationist and served as a longtime member of the Audubon California Board of Directors.

He is survived by his wife, producer and former Disney Studios vice president Iya Labunka, his two children from a previous marriage, Jonathan and Jessica, a stepdaughter, Nina Tarnawsky, and three grandchildren.

"Our hearts," they said in their statement, "are broken."

ABC/Mitchell Haaseth(LOS ANGELES) -- Grey's Anatomy is moving on after killing off Patrick Dempsey's character Dr. Derek Shepherd, better known as "McDreamy," last season.  Jason George, who plays Dr. Ben Warren on the long-running ABC series, said fans are in for a treat next season.

"The writers have made this extra effort to breathe new air and refresh everything," he told People magazine. "They've hit reboot almost. There's a lot of things that make it feel brand-new, but it has that lightness and sense of humor that people fell in love with in the first place."

"And the sexy sexy is back on," George noted. "There are a lot of people who are not in couples now and are falling into bed. Everyone's getting a little bit of loving."

George admitted, however, that the set has changed since Dempsey left. "It's different. Every time someone leaves a show, it changes," George explained. "The show has been on 12 years, but it has to change. People think they want everything to stay the same and everyone to be happy, but happy people make for boring television, ultimately."

Grey's Anatomy returns on ABC September 24 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

ABC(LOS ANGELES) -- Rob Kardashian hasn't been in the public eye for quite some time. On Keeping Up with the Kardashians, cameras documented how the reality star struggled with depression and later weight gain, reportedly packing on over 100 pounds.

But now Kardashian's back in the gym, and recently joked about his reported ongoing efforts to shed a few extra pounds. "Started right here with these milkshakes hahaha," he wrote on Instagram, next to a throwback Thursday photo of him enjoying desert.

Rob's sister, Kim, also bragged about his workout efforts. Earlier this week, she tweeted, "Rise & Grind! Workout time!!!!! With @robkardashian." Earlier in the month, the siblings went on what Kim called "the hardest hike ever" together.

Kardashian's trainer, Gunnar Peterson, told People magazine earlier in the week that Rob's been hitting the gym hard. "Rob is always in! He's slammed schedule-wise and still makes this work," Gunnar said. "Never worry about Rob."

ABC(NEW YORK) -- Attention is turning to Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, after her husband was accused of possibly having an Ashley Madison account.  Observers have noticed that she hasn't been wearing her wedding rings. But the outspoken reality star made sure to clear things up right away.

"FYI I don't wear my wedding rings because they're too big and I need to resize them so I won't lose them," she tweeted. "I'm still happily married."

Us Weekly reported earlier this week that Snooki's husband, Jionni LaValle may have had an account on the website that helps people cheat on their spouses. An email address for LaValle reportedly matches one that belonged to a member.

Of that report, Snooki tweeted, "There's no proof because it's false. The other couple on the other hand..."

Who knows if Snooki was referring to Josh Taekman, the husband of Real Housewives of New York star Kristen Taekman, who admitted to using the site or Josh Duggar, who revealed he had an addiction to porn and entered a treatment facility after his name was linked to the site.

While she was at it, Snooki also cleared up an In Touch Weekly report that claimed the reason why the reality star would never leave her husband is because "they never signed a pre-nup."

"But we have a pre nup. Can we try to at least print one factual article about my husband and I? Where do u get ur info," she wrote.

Snooki and LaValle were married last year and have two young children, Lorenzo and Giovanna.

Ray Mickshaw/FOX(LOS ANGELES) -- It's been four months since Jessica Biel gave birth to Silas, her son with husband, Justin Timberlake. So what's her favorite part about caring for her newborn?

"Probably the moment he wakes up from a nap," Biel tells E! News. "He's sort of looking around and you sort of creep up and look over the crib and he looks up and he goes [sigh]. Just a gummy mouth, no teeth, just a big smile, happy that you're alive and you're just looking at him. That's probably the most magical."

"But you quickly move on from it because there is a dirty diaper in your palm," she adds.

Biel and Timberlake were married in 2012 and welcomed Silas last April.

ABC/Randy Holmes(LOS ANGELES) -- Ed Sheeran is the one who introduced actress Courteney Cox to her fiance, Johnny McDaid of the band Snow Patrol.  So it's no wonder that the Friends star fully expects Ed to entertain guests at their upcoming wedding.

Speaking to the British tabloid The Sun, Courtney says, "We are certainly grateful to Ed for introducing us. I can’t imagine him not playing something at the wedding. It’ll be a musical night.”

So how did Ed hook Courtney up with Johnny?  Well, he lived in Courteney's pool house while he was making his album, X, and Johnny was one of his collaborators on the project, co-writing several tracks, including the hit "Photograph."

Johnny's band Snow Patrol is best known for their 2006 hit "Chasing Cars," which blew up after it was featured on Grey's Anatomy.

Dana Edelson/NBC(NEW YORK) -- Ever since Miley Cyrus started opening up about her fluid sexuality, there’s been a lot of talk about whom she’s dating. In particular, people have been speculating that she’s in a relationship with Victoria’s Secret model Stella Maxwell.  But in a new cover story with Elle U.K., Miley says she’s not tied down to anyone at the moment.

“I’m very open about it -- I’m pansexual,” she says. “But I’m not in a relationship. I’m 22, I’m going on dates, but I change my style every two weeks, let alone who I’m with.”

We'll save you the trouble of Googling “pansexual”: It describes someone who’s attracted to people of any sex or gender identity.

Miley also tells the mag she set up The Happy Hippie Foundation as a way of using her fame for good.  “I was kind of embarrassed that I got paid money to shake my a** in a teddy bear costume,” she says, adding, “I should not be worth the amount I am while people live on the streets.”

See what else Miley decides to shake when she hosts 2015 MTV Video Music Awards this Sunday night.

ABC/Adam Taylor(NEW YORK) -- Earlier this month Julianne Hough announced she's engaged to her boyfriend, pro hockey player Brooks Laich. And after a short self-imposed social media break, the Dancing with the Starsjudge hasnow revealed how Laich popped the question, writing on her blog that it was "magical and sweet."

"We were at home, romantic and relaxed, which is perfectly very 'us,'" she continues. "We stood on the deck, watching the sun set over the lake and listening to our favorite songs. Not even for a second did I expect that beautiful, serene scene was about to become one of the most meaningful moments of our lives."

Hough said she was surprised when Laich actually proposed. "In fact, I was so taken aback when Brooks got down on one knee I completely blacked out! It was like a rush of heat and a wave of uncontrollable emotion swept right through my body," she describes. "I didn’t have any words at first (me! no words!). All I could do was explode into his arms and experience pure joy from head to toe."

Since putting her engagement ring on her finger, Hough said her relationship has changed. "It’s crazy! I have to say, being engaged actually does feel different. There is a sense of strength in us, a feeling of being further grounded but most of all, it just makes me really giddy!"

"Getting engaged has been about much more than the engagement itself," she writes. "The rush of love from friends and family, plus the support from all of you has been overwhelming. The love being poured into this next step of our relationship is incredible, and I’m so very grateful."

The Dancing with the Stars judge has been dating Laich, who plays for the Washington Capitals, since last December. They were set up by a mutual friend, actor Teddy Sears.

ABC/Ida Mae Astute(LOS ANGELES) -- Here's proof Nicki Minaj no longer holds a grudge against the MTV Video Music Awards: she's opening the 2015 edition of the show this Sunday night.

Nicki let the cat out of the bag on Thursday, when she posted on her Instagram a photo of a sonogram of a Moonman statue. The picture no longer appears on her page, but MTV later confirmed the news.

You may recall, after this year's nominees were announced, Nicki complained her hit "Anaconda" was excluded from the Video of the Year category, and that her collaboration with Beyoncé, "Feeling Myself," was snubbed entirely. She tweeted, "If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year."

Taylor Swift took the comments personally, chimed in on Twitter, and it led to a tense yet brief exchange that ended when Taylor apologized.

It'll be interesting to see if Nicki crosses paths at Sunday's VMAs with host Miley Cyrus, who touched upon the spat in an interview with The New York Times. She said of Nicki, "If you do things with an open heart and you come at things with love, you would be heard and I would respect your statement. But I don’t respect your statement because of the anger that came with it.

"And it’s not anger like, 'Guys, I’m frustrated about some things that are a bigger issue,'" Miley continued. "You made it about you. Not to sound like a b****, but that’s like, 'Eh, I didn’t get my VMA.'"

Miley further argued, "You don’t have to start this pop-star-against-pop-star war. It became Nicki Minaj and Taylor in a fight, so now the story isn’t even on what you wanted it to be about."
