A Civil Service report claims that more than 8,000 classified  state employees  have  lost  their  jobs  since  Governor Jindal has taken office.  It states that most of the layoffs occurred in the last two

state   fiscal  years  as  a  result  of  the  governor's   hospital privatization  plan.   Jindal administration officials claim most of those employees were offered  jobs  by private firms taking over the services.

Governor Jindal is expected to sign a $53 million dollar fee hike on  uninsured drivers. The measure, by Baton Rouge Representative Barry  Ivey, increases fees for the reinstatement of driving privileges for  those caught driving uninsured. Ivey says the fee increase will fund the Insurance Verification System and also  state trooper salaries.

Based on projections released by the Louisiana Workforce Commission, the  state's annual employment growth is expected to outpace the national  rate. L-W-C executive director Curt Eysink anticipates the state's work  force will grow at an annual rate of 1.7 percent through 2015.  The employment forecasts are based on historical data and interviews  with business leaders. Eysink says the Lake Charles area should see the  largest employment growth through 2015, when compared to other metro  areas in the state.

The State Fire Marshal's office  says  three people died in a tragic fire at an apartment in Metairie early yesterday morning.  The  cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but investigators are treating  it as  suspicious.  One person was injured when jumping from the second story window

The  Monroe  Police  Department  says  a  mother  allegedly shot and critically injured her son following a dispute.  Sgt.  Mark  Johnson says the 69-year-old woman seems to have snapped during some type of confrontation  with  her  47-year-old  son  at  the home they shared together. The victim is in critical condition at a local hospital.  The mother, who also shot and killed the family dog, has not been charged at this time and the case has  been turned over to the District Attorney's office for review.
